Objective

The objective of Wig Out! is to score the least points after five rounds.

Setup

  • Get a piece of paper and a pencil in order to keep score.
  • Choose a player to be the dealer. The dealer shuffles all of the cards and deals them face down to the players. The number of cards they will deal to each player depends on the number of players.
    • 2-4 players: 7 cards
    • 5-6 players: 5 cards
  • Players can pick up their cards and sort them by their type.
  • The remaining cards are placed face down on the table to form a draw pile.
  • Take the top two cards from the draw pile and turn them face up. If the two cards don’t match, place one on each side of the draw pile. If they are the same card, place one of the cards on top of the other.
Setup for Wig Out
As the two cards don’t match, they are placed into different piles.

How to Play Wig Out!

There are no turns in Wig Out!. All of the players play at the same time. When the players are ready the dealer says “GO!” All of the players will then start playing the game.

Each player looks at the cards in their hand trying to find one or more that they can play.

If you have two or more cards that match, you will place them face up on the table in a new pile. You should place the pile in the middle of the table so the rest of the players can reach it.

Playing a pair of cards
One of the players had two of the same card in their hand. They will play the two cards as a pile to the table.

The second way you can play a card from your hand is if it matches one of the piles already out on the table. If you have a card that matches another pile, you can play the card to the matching pile.

Adding a card to a pile
The two cards on the left were already on the table. One of the players had a matching card in their hand. They can play the card to the matching pile on the table.

Should you not have any cards in your hand that you can play, you will be forced to draw cards from the draw pile. You will add any card you draw to your hand. Keep drawing cards until you have a card in your hand that you can play.

End of Round

A round ends immediately once someone plays the last card from their hand. They will shout “Wig Out!” which immediately ends the round.

It is possible for each player to only have one card left in their hand that can’t be played. If no one can play their last card, the round ends in a tie with no one scoring any points.

Every player that still has cards left in their hand score one point for each card. Each player writes down how many points they score each round.

Scoring in Wig Out
One of the players had these three cards left in their hand at the end of the round. They will score three points this round.

The player to the left of the previous dealer becomes the dealer for the next round. They will shuffle the cards and deal them out like the first round.

Winning the Game

The game ends after five rounds have been played. The players total how many points they scored in the game. The player that scored the least points wins the game.

If you would like to play a longer game, the player can agree before starting a game how many rounds they would like to play.
