Number cards

Numbers

Number cards have no special effect in the game. You can only play a number card if it matches the color or number of the top card on the Discard Pile.

Draw Two card

Draw Two

When you play a Draw Two card, the next player in turn order has to draw two cards and adds them to their hand. The next player also loses their turn.

You can play a Draw Two card on top of another Draw Two card, or a card that matches its color. If a Draw Two is played against you, you cannot play your own Draw Two to avoid the punishment and pass it to another player.

Reverse card

Reverse

The Reverse card changes the direction of play. When play is moving clockwise/left, the Reverse changes it to pass counter-clockwise/right. If play is moving counter-clockwise, it will now move clockwise.

You can play a Reverse card on top of another Reverse card, or on a card of the same color.

Skip card

Skip

When you play a Skip card, the next player in turn order loses their turn.

You can play a Skip card on top of another Skip card, or a card that matches its color. If a Skip card is played against you, you cannot play your own Skip card to avoid losing your turn.

Wild card

Wild

The Wild card can be played at any time since it matches every color in the game. You can play a Wild card even if you have another card in your hand that you can play.

When you play a Wild card, you choose the color for the Discard Pile. You can pick any of the four colors, including the color it was when you played the card.

Wild Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice card

Wild Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

When you first play the card, you will say “Beetlejuice” three times. While you are saying that, you will draw three cards from the Draw Pile. You can look at the three cards as you draw them.

After drawing the three cards, you will determine who to give the cards to. You can give all of the cards to one player, or you could give one card to three different players. Should you draw a card that you want to keep, you can give it to yourself.

Playing a Wild Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice card
The current player played a Wild Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice card. They draw three cards from the Draw Pile. They can either give all three cards to the same player, or one card to three different players. They may also want to choose to keep the Wild Draw Four card for themselves.

Should you forget to say Beetlejuice three times and someone calls you out before the next turn, you must take all three cards for yourself.

The card is also wild so you can play it on top of any other card. You also get to choose the color for the Discard Pile. You can pick any of the four colors.

Wild Draw Four card

Wild Draw Four

The Wild Draw Four card matches every other card in the game. You normally would be able to play it at any time. The one catch is that you can only play the card when you have no other cards in your hand that match the current color of the Discard Pile. Wild cards are considered matches for the current color. You can play the Wild Draw Four card if your only matches are the number or symbol.

By playing the Wild Draw Four card you choose the color for the Discard Pile. Whichever color you choose has no impact on the outcome of any potential challenges.

The next player in turn order then has a decision to make. First they can accept the card. In this case they will draw four cards and they will lose their turn.

Playing a Wild Draw Four card
The last player played a Wild Draw Four card on a green seven. The next player can choose to draw four cards and lose their turn, or choose to challenge the play of the card.

Challenging

Otherwise the player could choose to challenge the play of the card. They would want to do this if they think the previous player played the Wild Draw Four incorrectly. This occurs when the player had a card in their hand that matched the color of the Discard Pile from before the Wild Draw Four was played.

If the player chooses to challenge, they will look at all of the cards in the hand of the player who played the Wild Draw Four. They are looking for cards that match the color of the Discard Pile when the Wild Draw Four was played.

If the player has no matching color cards in their hand, they played the Wild Draw Four card correctly. In this case the challenging player has to draw six cards and they still lose their turn.

Playing a Wild Draw Four card correctly
The player that played the Wild Draw Four card did not have any green cards in their hand. Therefore they played the card correctly. The challenging player now has to draw six cards.

Should it turn out that they played the card incorrectly (they had a matching color card or Wild), they will receive the punishment. They will draw the four cards while the next player doesn’t have to draw any cards, and they don’t lose their turn.

Playing a Wild Draw Four card incorrectly
The player that played the Wild Draw Four had a green card in their hand. Therefore they incorrectly played the Wild Draw Four. They will have to draw the four cards instead of the challenger.
