The objective of Little Mermaid Electronic Undersea Princess Game is to be the first player to acquire a complete set of jewelry of the same color.

Set Up

  • Insert two C batteries into the bottom of the game unit.
  • Push the plastic rock into the middle of the carousel. Make sure the tabs on the rock match the slots in the carousel.
  • Place Ariel on top of the plastic rock.
  • Insert the four plastic seaweed pieces into the corresponding holes in the carousel.
  • Choose whether you are going to play the easy or advanced game.

Easy Little Mermaid Electronic Undersea Princess Game

Each player chooses a dolphin ring and places it on their finger. The rest of the jewelry pieces are randomly placed inside one of the clamshells. Only one piece of jewelry should be placed inside each clamshell. The youngest player starts the game.

Looking For Your Jewelry

To start your turn you will press down on Ariel. This starts the carousel. As the carousel spins the clamshells will open and close as “Under the Sea” plays. You are looking for a clamshell that has a piece of jewelry that matches the color of your ring.

See matching color jewelry on carousel
The current player has the red ring. They are looking for red pieces of jewelry. The open clamshell has a red earring. The player should keep track of that clamshell and pick it once the carousel stops moving.

When the carousel stops, you will then choose one of the clamshells to open. You should try to pick a clamshell that has one of your pieces of jewelry.

If the clamshell has one of your pieces of jewelry, you will take it and put it on. Should you find the correct starfish gem, you will attach it to the ring.

Picking a piece of jewelry that matches your red ring
The player that had the red ring picked a clamshell that had a red earring in it. Since it matches their color, they will get to keep the earring.

If the jewelry is a different color than your ring, you will keep it in the clamshell. Should the clamshell be empty (the jewelry piece was taken on a previous turn), you don’t do anything.

Picking a wrong color piece of jewelry
The red player ended up picking a clamshell that had a yellow starfish in it. Since it doesn’t match their color, they will return it to the clamshell that they took it out of.

In either case your turn ends. Play passes to the player on your left.

Winning the Game

The players will keep taking turns trying to find one of their pieces of jewelry. The game ends as soon as one player collects their three jewelry pieces (total of four pieces). The first player to collect all of their jewelry wins the game.

Winning the easy game of Little Mermaid Electronic Undersea Princess
This player has acquired all four red pieces of jewelry. The starfish is attached to the top of the ring. They have won the game.

Advanced Little Mermaid Electronic Undersea Princess Game

Before you start the game you will attach the starfish gems to the corresponding rings. All of the jewelry pieces are then randomly placed into one of the clamshells. The youngest player starts the game.

Rolling the Die

To start each of your turns you will roll the die. What you roll on the die determines what you will try to find on your turn.

  • Starfish: Try to find a ring of any color.
  • Sea horse: Try to find a Sea horse earring of any color.
  • Seashell: Look for a Seashell earring of any color.
  • Clamshell: Choose one of the pieces of jewelry you collected on a previous turn. Return it to one of the empty clamshells. If you have no jewelry, you take no action.
  • Flounder: Choose a piece of jewelry from another player. Take the jewelry piece and add it to your own collection. If none of the players have any jewelry, you will take no action.
  • Ursula: You will take the Ursula token and place it in front of yourself. This token prevents you from winning the game. You will have to get rid of the token before you can win the game. The only way to lose the Ursula token is to have another player roll the Ursula symbol and have them take the token from you.
Rolling a seahorse on the die
This player rolled a seahorse on the die. They will try to find a seahorse earring on the carousel.

Looking for Jewelry

If you rolled a starfish, sea horse, or seashell; you will press down on Ariel to start the carousel. You will watch the clamshells as they open and close. The goal is to try and find three pieces of jewelry of the same color. You do not have to commit to a color and can end up collecting jewelry for several colors during the game.

After the carousel stops moving, you will pick one of the clamshells to open. If it has a piece of jewelry that matches what you rolled, you will take the jewelry. If it doesn’t match what you rolled or the clamshell was empty, you don’t get to take any jewelry on your turn.

Picking a piece of jewelry that matches the die
The player rolled a seahorse on the die and picked a clamshell that had a green seahorse earring in it. They will get to keep the earring since it matches what they rolled on the die.

Your turn then ends. Play passes to the player on your left.

Winning the Game

The players will keep taking turns rolling the dice and trying to collect jewelry. Eventually all of the jewelry could be removed from the carousel. In this case the players will roll the die, but won’t activate the carousel unless a clamshell is rolled and a piece of jewelry is returned to the carousel.

The game ends once one player has acquired one piece of jewelry of each type that are the same color. The player also can’t have the Ursula token. If they do, the game continues.

Blocked from winning due to Ursula token
This player has all of the pieces of green jewelry which would normally win them the game. Since they have the Ursula token though, they can’t win the game. They will have to get rid of the Ursula token in order to win the game.

The first player to collect all of the jewelry of one color while not having the Ursula token, wins the Little Mermaid Electronic Undersea Princess Game.

Winning the advanced game
This player has collected all of the green pieces of jewelry. They have won the game. It doesn’t matter that they also have a red earring.
