Objective

The objective of Grocery Go Karts is to acquire all of the items from your grocery list and make it to the check out before the other players.

Setup

  • Place the gameboard in the middle of the table.
  • Each player chooses a shopping kart.
  • Based on the cart you choose, you will take the grocery list that matches the color of your kart. Place your list in front of you.
  • Each player takes two grocery items of each color making sure that you take one of each shape.
  • All of the players take a loaf of bread and place it on top of their kart. If you want to make the game more challenging, you can have each player start with no items in their kart. If you choose to do this, each player places a bread on their grocery list.
  • Take all of the grocery items and place them on the corresponding sections of your grocery list.
  • Shuffle the coupon cards and place them facedown on the gameboard.
  • Line up all of the karts behind the start space.
  • The youngest players starts the game. Play moves clockwise/left throughout the game.

How to Play Grocery Go Karts

You will begin each of your turns rolling the die. You will move your kart to the next space along the track that matches the color that you rolled.

Moving to the next blue space
The blue player rolled blue on the die. They move their kart to the closest blue space.

When another player is on the next space that matches the color you rolled, move to the next space that matches the color you rolled.

Rolling a color that is occupied
The purple player rolled green on the die. The red player is on the nearest green space. The purple player will move past the red kart to the next closest green space.

Should you land on a space that pictures an item that is still on your list, take the item from your list and stack it on top of your kart. Each item has a hole on the bottom and a peg on the top. You should use these in order to stack the items in your kart.

Placing an item in your kart
The blue player landed on a blue space. They take one of the blue items from their list and add it to the kart.

If you do not have any items on your list that match the space you landed on, you take no action on your turn.

When you land on a yellow Coupon space, take a Coupon card and read it out loud. Take the corresponding action, and then place the card on the bottom of the pile of cards.

Coupon card
The yellow player landed on a Coupon space. They take the top card and read it. The yellow player gets to take one item from their list (of any color), and add it to their kart.

Should the groceries ever fall off your kart, stack them back on your kart. There is no punishment when groceries fall off your kart.

After you take the action corresponding to the space you landed on, your turn ends. The player on your left takes the next turn.

Checking Out

Once you have added all of the items from your grocery list to your kart, you are ready to check out.

A player has added all of the items to their kart
The blue player has added all of the items from their list to their kart. The blue player will now move to the checkout.

On your future turns you will still roll the die and move around the gameboard normally. You no longer have to worry about stacking items on your kart. Should you land on a Coupon space, you will roll the die again and take another turn instead of taking a Coupon card.

Once you reach the green space by the Checkout (has tire tracks on it), you will stop moving. You do not have to land on the space by exact count. You will then push your kart to the Checkout space. The first player to reach the Checkout wins the game. To celebrate they should push the lever on their kart to launch their groceries into the air.

Winning Grocery Go Karts
The blue player has all of the items in their kart and they have reached the last green space by the Checkout. They can immediately move their kart to the Checkout and win the game.
