- Unlock the grill by turning the switch on the side from the 0 to the 1 position.
- Spread the cards out on the table face down so you can’t see the food on each card.
- Place the food items near the grill.
- The hungriest or youngest player starts the game.
How to Play Barbecue Party
To begin your turn you will choose one of the cards from the table and flip it over. The action you will take on your turn depends on what is on the card.
After you take an action corresponding to the card you flipped over, your turn ends. Play then passes to the next player. The game does not specify if turn order passes clockwise or counterclockwise.
Food Card
Most of the cards feature a food items. Look on the grill to see if there is a food item that matches the card. If there is a matching food item on the grill, you can take the card and place it in front of you. Use the tongs to take the corresponding food item off the grill and place it on top of the card.
If there are no matching food items on the grill, you will use the tongs to place one of the corresponding food items on the grill. Then turn over the food card and mix it up with the rest of the cards.
If a player has already claimed both of the food items matching the card you drew, you lose the rest of your turn. Turn over the card and mix it up with the rest of the cards.
Joker Card
Should you reveal a Joker card, you get to choose one type of food that the card will represent. If your chosen food is on the grill, you can use the tongs to take it off. Place the Joker card in front of you and use the tongs to put the chosen food item on the card.
If the food item you chose is not currently on the grill, you will take one of the corresponding food items and place it on the grill with the tongs. The Joker card is then turned over and mixed in with the rest of the cards.
Grill Jumps
Occasionally the grill will jump during the game due to a player adding a food item or removing one from the grill.
When the grill jumps up, all of the food items that were on the grill are returned to the table. If there is a food item in the tongs, that item is also returned to the table.
You will then reset the grill by sliding the switch to 0. You will press down on the center rod until it clicks. Then place the grill cover on the barbecue. Finally flip the switch on the side to 1.
The current player loses the rest of their turn.
Winning the Game
In order to win Barbecue Party you need to collect a certain number of food items. The number of food items you need to collect depends on your age. Players under six years old need to collect three food items. Players six and older have to collect four food items.
The first player to collect enough food items wins the game.
