Netflix Trending Now Party Game: Rules for How to Play

Objective

The objective of Netflix Trending Now is to create the best show premises to match the current round’s situation.

Setup

Sort the cards by their types and shuffle each pile separately. Place the four piles facedown in the middle of the table where everyone can reach them.
Each player draws four Content cards and four Plot Twist cards.
The player who most recently paid for a Netflix subscription starts the game. They will take the Judge Token.
The player to the left of the Judge takes the Drama Llama Token.

How to Play Netflix Trending Now

To begin each round the current Judge takes the top Situation card and flips it over so everyone can see it. They will read the card out loud to the rest of the players.

Situation card in Netflix Trending Now — For this round the players need to make a recommendation for a show their dads says that don’t like, but secretly does enjoy.

After hearing the situation for the current round, each player will try to make a recommendation for the Judge. Each player (except for the Judge) looks through their Content and Plot Twist cards. They are trying to find a combination of one Content and one Plot Twist card that they think the Judge will enjoy. When you have chosen the two cards that you would like to play, you will place them facedown in front of you.

Creating a recommendation — One of the players have decided to create a recommendation of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo where characters accumulate unexplained injuries throughout the episode. Once the player has created their recommendation, they will place it face down in front of themselves.

Once everyone has played their two cards to the table, the player with the Drama Llama Token draws the top card from the Drama pile of cards. They will read the card out loud and follow the instructions. These cards will have an effect on the rest of the round.

Drawing a Drama card — The Drama Llama draws a Drama card and reads it out to the rest of the players. For this card each player has to act out their recommendation. The Judge has to pick the winner of the round based on each players acting.

Choosing the Best Recommendation

The players will then take turns revealing their recommendation (the two cards they placed facedown on the table). After everyone has given their recommendation, the Judge chooses which one was their favorite. The Judge can use whatever criteria they want to make their choice as long as they follow the rules on the Drama card.

Judge picks the best recommendation — All of the players besides the Judge have created their recommendations. Each player has to act out a scene from their recommendation due to the Drama card. The Judge then has to pick which recommendation they like the most.

The player who made the winning recommendation takes the Situation card for the round as a reward for winning the round.

Judge chose best recommendation — The Judge decided to pick Money Heist as retold by nuns as the best recommendation. The player that made that recommendation gets to take the round’s Situation card which is worth one point.

To prepare for the next round all of the played cards are discarded. All of the players who played cards will draw one Content and one Plot Twist card so they have four cards of each type in their hand. The Judge and Drama Llama tokens are passed one player to the left. The players will then play another round in the same way as the first round.

Winning the Game

The game ends as soon as someone receives their fifth Situation card (they have won five rounds). The first player to collect five Situation cards wins the game.

Winning Netflix Trending Now — This player has acquired five Situation cards. They have won the game.
